Chinese Soup Recipes

The ingredients commonly used in Chinese soup recipes include meat (e.g. chicken, pork ribs), seafood (e.g. fish, prawns, ikan bilis), vegetables (e.g. carrots, corn, potato, green leafy vegetables) and other Chinese ingredients.

Depending on the food ingredients used, some soups take longer time (more than 3 hours) to brew than others (about 30 minutes).

For those that need more time, you may consider using slow cookers for easier monitoring.

Chinese drink soup (called "Tang" in mandarin) as a mean of getting the nutrients and goodness of various ingredients into our bodies, even if we do not eat the stuff in it.

Of course, we eat the meat, seafood and veggies most of the time so as not to waste them, especially if they are still tasty and nutritious.

Different soups have different nutrition values. Other than varying the soups based on the ingredients available, we cook soups based on the weather condition or our bodies' needs. Of course, mood counts too : )

Chinese soups are mostly watery with solid ingredients inside, instead of thick and smooth like some western ones. Although watery, they are very tasty and heart-warming.

Some Chinese families like to serve soup in a common bowl and share them among all the family members. Each person will drink using his/her own soup spoon.

Others prefer to serve in individual bowls so that each can enjoy at his/her convenience. Cook the appropriate amount and serve as preferred for your family or friends.

Soups taste better when they are hot/warm. As such, serve them hot and sip from the start of the meal. They will help to warm up your stomach.
